[Design system as a service]

One design system your team and your AI tools build from

We build a custom design system your product needs, or adapt ours to it. Your team ships from one place, either way.

Spending more time designing than building?

  • Creating every screen from scratch?

  • Ant, MUI, or another library doesn’t fit?

  • Design system built, then forgotten?

Get your own design system

  • Faster design-to-development

Designs move to production with fewer handoffs. Engineers pull components that already exist and don’t interpret a Figma file.

  • Engineers don’t rebuild the same thing

Every component has one version, in one place. The time that went into rewriting the same modal goes into product.

  • AI tools consistently build from your system

Cursor and Claude Code read the rules file and use your components. No more inventing a fourth version of your button.

  • Your product stops looking different

Every screen uses the same components, so the interface holds together as your team ships.

  • Changes stop being expensive

A rebrand or new feature doesn’t need a complete redesign. Baselane updated their whole product identity in 4 hours.

  • Accessible by default

Keyboard navigation, focus states, and screen reader support come built into the components.

Do you adopt a design system or build your own?

Habitat helps with both.

What we hand over to you

Everything a design system should ship with, plus the layer AI tools need. Built in whatever stack your team runs.

Two ways to build a design system with Habitat

Adapt Habitat’s own design system for AI products or build a brand new one with us. Your stack and your timeline usually decide which way is best.

  • Adapt Sprout, our proprietary design system

Sprout is our own React component system, built for AI products, with AX patterns most libraries don’t have yet. We adapt it to your brand and add whatever your product needs.

    • 83+ components
    • Agentic patterns ready to use
    • Radix + Tailwind v4
    • Figma file and React library in sync
    • Skill files to use with AI tools
    • Free for Habitat clients

Best for: React teams who want components in the product asap, especially if building AI features.

  • Build a custom system for your product

We design the architecture around your product — foundations, components, patterns — and build it to fit your stack, no matter if that’s Ant, MUI, or nothing yet.

    • Agentic components included if needed
    • Built on your existing stack
    • Documented in Storybook
    • Stress-tested on live screens
    • 2–4 months to deliver

Best for: Teams on a stack Sprout doesn’t cover, or products complex enough to need architecture designed for them.

[Agents-ready design system Blueprint]

Get a design system your team will build from. Blueprint starts at $4,900

Start with the 10-Day Design System Blueprint. We work out what your design system needs to contain and how it should be built. You leave with a roadmap your team can start from, and a rules file that keeps AI tools building from it.

$4,900

  • 10 days
  • 1 fixed price
  • Component build roadmap
  • Go in-house or continue with us
  • Component and drift inventory by Day 4

What your team keeps rebuilding, and where Figma and code stopped agreeing.

  • Token and naming architecture by Day 6

One source of truth for color, type, and spacing, each clearly named.

  • AI guardrail spec by Day 8

The rules file that keeps Cursor, Claude Code, or whatever your team uses building correctly for you.

  • Build roadmap by Day 10

What gets built first and in what order. Plus whether to adapt Sprout or build a custom system.

[The design debt bomb]

Design debt gets expensive. Let’s fix yours

Most teams call us at the third stage, but why wait that long? Wherever you are now, it costs less to fix now than at the next stage.

  1. 01

    Velocity mode

You’re shipping fast. Nothing is standardized yet.

  2. 02

    Friction point

Engineers start rebuilding things that already exist. The same button gets four versions.

  3. 03

    Visible breakage

The product looks like several products. Every new feature takes longer than the last.

  4. 04

    Reset cost

You pay for it all at once with a redesign.

When a design system is good to go, some teams keep us on to build with it.

Have questions?

  • You own it. The components live in your repo, and everything we build on top of Sprout for your product is yours outright. There’s no subscription for design system clients. Sprout is included in the engagement, and you keep it when the engagement ends.

  • Design systems usually die because designers build them and engineers get handed the result. We do it the other way around. Your developers help decide what gets standardized and what stays flexible, and we test components on your live screens before rolling anything out. Documentation lives in Storybook, so it doesn’t go out of date. Baselane’s team now ships routine changes without looping in design at all.

  • Not necessarily. Ant and MUI give you components but no rules for how they go together, so we can build that layer on top of what you already have. Your engineers keep working with a library they know, and you get the tokens, patterns, and a brand that were missing.

  • No. We roll it out in pieces, so your team keeps working the whole time. That’s also part of why it sticks: components get used in real screens as they land, instead of arriving all at once at the end.

  • Your team does, and we set it up so they can. You get documentation in Storybook, the Figma file, and time with our designers to walk your team through how it works. Some teams would rather not maintain it themselves and keep a Habitat designer on through Design Embed. That’s your call.

Let our designers take a fresh look at your product. For free

We’ll go through your product and come back with 3-4 specific things we’d change, along with why we’d change them. It’s the kind of practical feedback you’d normally pay for, and we’ll get it back to you within 48 hours.
